IPL | SilkPeel Q & A
What is Intense Pulsed Light?
Intense pulsed light (IPL) uses light therapy in different wavelengths on your skin. IPL is not laser therapy, instead acting more like a camera flash. Dr. Lee uses IPL for removing or minimizing skin issues such as:
- Age spots
- Unsightly blood vessels
- Freckles
- Sun damage spots
- Birthmarks
- Rosacea
IPL is effective anywhere on the body but may not work as well on uneven areas or darker skin tones. In your consultation, Dr. Lee explains what you personally can expect from IPL therapy and can help you decide if it will help you achieve optimal results.
How does IPL work?
Dr. Lee uses the Palomar™ IPL device. The second layer of your skin, which holds the pigment-producing cells, absorbs the light energy from the handheld device. The heat destroys any unwanted pigments in your skin cells, causing any dark spots such as freckles and age spots to disappear. The light from Palomar IPL causes a slight stinging on your skin, but Dr. Lee offers cooling gels to reduce any discomfort. Treatments usually last between 20-30 minutes depending on what part of your body Dr. Lee treats.
Does IPL work on acne?
Some acne resists healing, and the Palomar IPL works quickly to promote healing from bacteria and reduce the look of scarring. IPL helps to kill the bacteria on your skin and regenerate healthier skin from beneath. If you have acne scars or overactive acne issues, Dr. Lee can help you get it under control quickly and easily.
How long does recovery take with IPL?
Your skin may feel sore or look red, as if you got a slight sunburn, after your IPL procedure. The redness and sensitivity usually subsides after a few hours, and you can return to normal activity right away, including using makeup. Dr. Lee does recommend applying sunscreen and avoiding the sun as much as possible immediately after treatment as the skin heals.
While improvement in age spots and freckles can be seen in a week after one treatment, Dr. Lee may recommend more than one IPL treatment for optimal results as some pigmented lesions are more tenacious. They can be completed in a series over the course of a few months.
If you want a safe treatment of lines, blood vessels, or scars, consider using Palomar IPL from certified specialists with Dr. Lee at Biz MedSpa in Fremont, California. Book your appointment online today or call the office at your earliest convenience.
SilkPeel Dermalinfusion
Silkpeel Dermalinfusion or hydrodermabrasion skin treatments combine non-invasive exfoliation with the infusion of skin-specific topical solutions to improve and revitalize the skin. An advanced form of microdermabrasion, Silkpeel are unique because they do not use crystals. This safe and painless treatment is one of our most popular non-laser treatments. Silkpeel works perfectly with IPL, it’s highly recommend to have both treatments done together.
What is SilkPeel Dermalinfusion and what does it do?
Like microdermabrasion, Silkpeel Dermalinfusion treatments are non-invasive mechanical exfoliation treatments without chemicals that remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells from the treated area. They differ from traditional microdermabrasion treatments in that they use a patented technology to perform the treatment with a system that gently exfoliates with different treatment tips while infusing topical solutions at the same time. Different topical vitamins or a combination of topicals can be used for each patient so the treatment can be customized to treat hyperpigmentation, acne, photodamage, and dehydration.
What areas are treated with SilkPeel Dermalinfusion?
Most patients have Silkpeels done to the face; however, the neck and chest are also often done. Although Silkpeel treatments are most often done on their own, a mini version of the treatment can be done a few days after a deep IPL or FotoFacial treatment has been done to remove excess pigmentation or "coffee grounding" from these procedures. Also, we sometimes perform a Silkpeel in conjunction with a Laser Genesis treatment for an advanced "laser facial”.
What is a SilkPeel Dermalinfusion treatment like?
To perform a Silkpeel treatment, your technician begins with a deep cleansing of the skin. Next the Silkpeel treatment with customized solutions for your skin's concerns is done to the treated area, which takes about 15 minutes for a full face. After this step is completed, topical vitamins and minerals will be applied. Finally sunscreen is applied to the treated area. A full Silkpeel treatment takes about 30 minutes, with 20 minutes LED Photo Facial light illuminating.
