Acne | Acleara Q & A
What are the different types of acne?
Acne is the inflammation of skin pores caused by the buildup of dead skin cells, excess oil, or infection. It mostly affects teens, but some adults have acne as well. Common spots for acne include your face, chest, and back. Acne appears as blackheads, also known as clogged pores, whiteheads, or pimples. Pimples are often red or filled with pus or may appear as a large lump just beneath the surface of your skin known as cystic lesions. Dr. Lee recommends a professional treating your acne and not popping pimples on your own in order to reduce the risk of scarring.
What treatments help with acne?
Both over-the-counter and prescription creams and gels help treat acne breakouts. Dr. Lee suggests proper hygiene for acne treatment, but realizes you’re not fully in control of your skin. If you suffer from overactive oil glands or have resistant acne-causing bacteria on your skin, you’ll need more than good hygiene habits.
Dr. Lee and his staff support using LuxV™ Acne Treatment for overactive oil glands and OMNILUX™ for stubborn bacteria. LuxV Acne Treatment emits a light laser directly into the skin affecting the oil glands. The light laser reduces the amount of oil produced by the glands, helping to clear acne. The Omnilux uses targeted light therapy to kill bacteria resistant to soaps, restore your skin naturally, and stimulate cellular repair for revived and healthier skin.
Does acne cause scars?
Popping pimples, blackheads, or cystic lesions may cause scarring if done incorrectly and without the proper technique. Your skin scars from bacteria infection and deep trauma to your skin. Pushing too hard while popping causes scarring as does picking at an acne scab. If you have acne scars or current acne, speak with Dr. Lee about other skin refreshers available such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy or intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy.
How is acne prevented?
Myths about greasy foods, heavy makeup, and dirty skin consistently get blamed for acne. Dr. Lee recommends a well-balanced diet and proper hygiene of your skin, but also understands other factors causing breakouts. He suggests keeping your hands away from your face, not scrubbing too hard, and using an oil-free moisturizer.
Dr. Lee and his highly skilled team provide you with quality care of your skin, ridding you of acne and the stigma of unhealthy skin. Call today for your confidential and informative appointment or book online at your convenience.
Acleara
The Acleara Acne Clearing System
We offer the Acleara Acne Clearing System for the treatment of acne. Acleara is an innovative system that uses broadband light and suction to clean the skin and kill bacteria that cause acne. Patients of all ages and any degree of acne can benefit. The treatments are gentle, painless and results are seen in a few weeks. Virtually everyone is an ideal candidate. The Acleara Acne Clearing System is the first system of its kind cleared by the U.S. Federal Food and Drug Administration.
How Does the Acleara System Work?
The Acleara System combines two different methods for effective acne treatment. To begin, the held-held vacuum piece is placed on the parts of the skin that require treatment. The vacuum opens up pores, removing acne-causing bacteria and cleansing the skin. Following vacuum therapy, the system then utilizes a filtered, broadband light to destroy any remaining bacteria and to reduce the spread of oil on the skin.
How Effective is the Treatment?
Right after your first treatment, your skin will feel fresher and not as oily. It will probably take a few days for your acne outbreak to begin clearing up. The Acleara Acne Clearing System will not only clear much of your current outbreak, but it will reduce the chance of having a future outbreak. We recommend treatments every two weeks, for a total of 6-8 treatments.
We can use Acleara to treat acne on the face, chest, back and more. Any part of your skin that is prone to breakouts is treatable. Your pores will gradually appear smaller as the system clears the oils, dead cells, and bacteria.
