Ring in the New Year with PRP Therapy

Out with the old and in with the new! Every time you ring in a new year, you have a chance to become a newer, even better version of yourself. Sure, you’re aging, but that doesn’t mean you have to show it, or even feel it.

Cutting-edge rejuvenation treatments, such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP), harness and amplify your own body’s healing powers to rebuild your skin and tissues from the inside out. At Biz MedSpa in Fremont, California, our founder, Donald Lee, DO, uses his expertise with PRP to improve:

You can request PRP as a stand-alone therapy or combine it with other youth-promoting treatments, such as Botox® for wrinkles, dermal fillers to restore facial volume loss, and Silhouette Instalift® and Thermage® for nonsurgical facelifts.

Why your blood is powerful

All your life, you’ve probably taken your amazing healing powers for granted. Each time you injured yourself enough to bleed — whether from a skinned knee or because your knife slipped when cutting up veggies for your salad — you simply expected the bleeding to eventually stop and for your skin to heal. You probably didn’t think much about the process that lets your skin recover and regenerate.

But PRP draws upon that very process to heal skin and other soft tissues that have been injured or have grown lax and damaged due to aging and sun.

Your blood contains many important, nourishing ingredients, but essential to the healing process are little cell fragments called platelets. Platelets look like little plates, and they’re the component of your blood that start the healing process by sticking together and coagulating your blood so that the injured blood vessels stop leaking and begin to repair themselves.

When platelets repair your vessels and skin, they release proteins and growth factors that produce new, stronger blood vessels and initiate collagen remodeling in your skin.

The increase in blood circulation and healing substances alleviates inflammation, washes away old, injured tissue, and rebuilds your skin or tissue. When Dr. Lee injects a PRP serum into an area that needs improvement, such as sagging skin on your face, an old scar, or damaged follicles on your scalp, your skin rebuilds itself to be fresher and stronger.

How your PRP is prepared

A PRP treatment is fast, effective, and minimally invasive. It starts when Dr. Lee draws about 2-4 tablespoons of your arm blood in a procedure that’s just like giving blood for a test. He then spins the blood in a special, sterile centrifuge to separate out the healing platelets from the plasma (i.e. liquid).

He then mixes the concentrated platelets into a small amount of your own plasma, to create a high-powered PRP serum. Your PRP serum now contains up to nine times the number of healing, regenerating platelets as regular blood.

Your PRP goes where it’s needed

Dr. Lee injects the PRP serum into any area of your face or body where you’d like to regenerate skin and other tissues. That means he can inject it directly into wrinkles and creases to help your body repair the damaged skin and plump it up again, so that it’s smooth and glowing.

Over the next months, as your skin repairs itself with the concentrated platelets and new strands of the proteins collagen and elastin, you’ll notice your face and neck are:

He can also inject PRP into areas of your scalp where you’ve recently lost hair. The PRP helps repair damaged follicles so that they can regrow hair again.

The PRP also works on scars by replacing haphazard collagen remodeling (that takes place when your skin must quickly repair an injury) with orderly collagen that makes your skin look healthy and smooth.

If you’re a man and you’ve had problems with achieving or maintaining an erection, or if you’re a woman who’s having trouble achieving orgasm or adequate lubrication, PRP can help with that, too. By re-infusing your genital tissues with healing platelets and growth factors, your urogenital tissues regenerate so that they’re responsive and youthful again.

Your body does the rest

Because PRP uses the powers of your own blood, side effects are minimal. You may feel a little sore or swollen directly after your injections. You may also need a series of treatments to achieve the degree of improvement you want.

A PRP treatment only takes about an hour from start to finish, but the benefits continue to accumulate week after week, and month after month. You see your final results in skin and sexual response within 3-6 months. Hair regrowth takes about a year to complete.
