Busting These Myths About Cosmetic Injectables

If you’re ready to take your looks to a whole new level — without surgery or downtime — injectable therapies are one way to do it. These versatile therapies can do everything from smoothing out the wrinkles on your brow to plumping your lips to changing the shape of your nose. All without a cut or stitch.

At Biz MedSpa in Fremont, California, Donald Lee, DO and our team of aestheticians are experts at creating beautiful, rejuvenated looks with injectable therapies, including Botox®, Juvéderm®, and Radiesse®. If you’re still on the fence about injectables, we’re happy to dispel a few myths so you can achieve your aesthetic goals without surgery.

MYTH: Botox freezes your face

Busted: Early practitioners of Botox rejuvenations used a heavier hand than today’s experts. For decades now, experts have determined the optimal dosages and placements of Botox to smooth out wrinkles and relax brows without unduly “freezing” your muscles.

While you might not be able to win a gurning contest while on Botox, you’re still able to make important expressions, such as smiling and laughing beautifully and naturally. Botox does prevent you from making extreme expressions, such as frowning hard, which also prevents you from creating new wrinkles.

MYTH: Injectables look unnatural

Busted: While certain celebrities go overboard with lip injections or dermal fillers in their midface, that’s a decision and not the normal outcome. We always design your aesthetic improvements guided by your own tastes and desires.

Our aim is to make you look like the ideal version of yourself rather than change your look entirely. You can plump your lips just a little — to resolve volume lost to aging — or more dramatically to increase your kissability. Just let us know what you want.

MYTH: Injectables only make small improvements

Busted: Juvéderm and Radiesse now come in so many different consistencies that you can use injectable dermal fillers to do everything from filling in fine lines and wrinkles to building up your cheekbones for more lift and elegance. In fact, we can even use fillers and Botox together to create a customized “liquid facelift.”

You can enhance almost every feature on your face with injectable therapies. Some options include:

MYTH: Injectables hurt

Busted: We keep you comfortable during your injectable treatments. If you’re sensitive to pain, we recommend taking an over-the-counter painkiller before your appointment. We may also first apply a numbing cream to your face.

However, many injectable therapies — such as Juvéderm — have the anesthetic lidocaine in their formulation. You may feel a slight pinch as the needle is inserted, but your treatment is pain-free.

MYTH: Injectables are inconvenient

Busted: Although injectables require maintenance, they don’t require more than other forms of beautification, such as haircuts and manicures. In fact, injectable therapies last at least 3-4 months (i.e., Botox) and sometimes as much as a year or more (i.e., certain formulations of Juvéderm and Radiesse).

When you come to our aestheticians for injectable treatments, we set up your touch-up appointments on the spot. You don’t have to worry about when to come back to refresh your Botox or Juvéderm; you know ahead of time so you can modify your schedule accordingly.
